  • Categories assessed by expert panel of judges and comments from club members

Milton Keynes, UK – The Volkswagen Caravelle has been named Best Large Family Towcar in the Caravan and Motorhome Club Towcar of the Year Awards 2021.

The Volkswagen Caravelle has been praised for its space, versatility and towing capability by the Caravan and Motorhome Club in its Towcar of the Year 2021 awards.

The Caravan and Motorhome Club endeavours to provide the most reliable and up-to-date advice on caravans and towing vehicles. These awards were assessed by an independent panel of expert judges who carried out full technical specification and vehicle towing capability reviews.

Assessing boot load spaces, roof load limits, nose weight limits as well as towing information provided by the manufacturers, the judges divided the awards into seven weight classes, two Family Towcar categories, a Pick-Up and Alternatively Fuelled category. Club members were also invited to share their thoughts and experiences about the vehicle entrants.

Nick Lomas, Director General of the Caravan and Motorhome Club said: “Caravan holidays have never been more popular and it’s important to the Club to make sure we provide relevant information to our members - and all those interested in touring and towing - on the vehicles that are available to them. The Club, with its 110+ years of experience, has worked with respected industry colleagues and journalists, all of whom are themselves caravanners, to bring together this invaluable set of data and information.

“Although the Volkswagen Caravelle is something of a leftfield choice perhaps, it is a ‘problem solver’ of a car. If you need lots of space, versatility of seats vs payload carrying or hefty towing capability, there are plenty of choices around. If you need all three in a single car at the same time, the Caravelle should be on your list.”

The Volkswagen Caravelle 6.1 combines a versatile and comfortable interior with the latest driver assistance systems and technologies including Crosswind Assist, Park Assist and Lane Assist. The Caravelle also offers a towing capacity of up to 2.5 tonnes.

Kate Thompson, Head of Marketing at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles commented: “One of the positives to come out of the bizarre circumstances this year has been the rise of the staycation and a dramatic increase in camping holidays. The Caravan and Motorhome Club has compiled an excellent list of the best towcars on the market and we are delighted that the Volkswagen Caravelle is included in that list.”
